My name is Tracy, otherwise known as TJ. I bought my first Border Collie, Mika almost two years ago. She's fantastic, and I love her to pieces. Border Collies are from the "Herding" classification in the dog world. "Herding" is the key word. That's what they do!
I found that BC's are very tough dogs. They require hours of exercise for their bodies and their minds. For this reason, the Border Collie may not be the dog for you. I ask that you read the stories and the information I am providing, before you decide that cute puppy is the one you buy, and find out later that it's too much dog for you.
If it weren't for the questions I asked BEFORE I bought my BC, I never would have realized what I was in for. BC's want to be useful. I can't even begin to tell you how obsessed my Mika is. She wants constant attention...more looking for something to do than anything. I make time to play ball with her for at least an hour twice a day, she's in agility classes and herding classes. Border Collies are VERY time consuming, but if you have the time they're wonderful.
There are over 2500 Border Collies and BC crosses in shelters and rescue orginizations on the East Coast alone! Imagine how many of these fine dogs are across the country in shelters or rescue leagues......unwanted because people didn't research the breed first.
On this web site, you will find pictures of Border Collies, and a few other herding breeds. You'll read stories from BC owners on some things that a Border Collie can do. There will be information on orginizations, rescue groups and books you should read.
PLEASE...We all must stop the number of Border Collies and all dogs from going to shelters, put to death, or abandoned.
